THE PROBLEM

It may seem inconceivable to our first world sensibilities that there are countries like Haiti where a vast majority of their populace is making a strategic decision daily whether to eat on any given day or buy “cards” to gain access to the internet. The reasons are various but the bottom line is the same, people now need internet to just survive.

In the same Marche markets where Haitians used to trade in the most basic day to day needs they are deciding whether to eat or have internet connectivity.

Mobilized

More than half of Haitians own smart phones or tablets with that number rapidly growing.

Card Captured

95% of the mobile users purchase “pay as you go” cards to access the internet.

The Problem

Haitian people living in abject poverty pay 100 times what Americans pay for the typical broadband internet service.
